Tae Kwon Moo Do Way of Life: We must have Respect for Each Other

At CKMAF Schools we  practice the “Tae Kwon Moo Do Way Of Life” as taught to us by our old Masters.  The First tenant of the Tae Kwon Moo Do way of life is “We must have respect for each other”.  What does this mean to the people at CKMAF Schools ?

It is actually rather simple when you think about it. The first definition of respect in the dictionary is a feeling or attitude of admiration and deference toward somebody or something.  When we are respectful we are polite.  In Tae Kwon Do that means:

  • We bow In and Out of Class
  • We Bow To Higher Belts
  • We Bow to Lower Belts
  • We refer to people as sir or mam.  Or we use their honorific and their last name.
    • Master Last Name, Mr. Last Name, Mrs. Last Name, Ms. Last Name
  • We don’t talk while doing warm ups so everyone can hear the instructor
  • We appreciate that students are there to learn and we do not disrupt the class
  • Lower belts should listen to higher belts who have already passed their level and recognize that they are trying to help them.
  • Higher belts should recognize that lower belts are trying to learn and that not everyone has the same skill set.  They should offer constructive criticism, not bully lower belts.
  • When there is conflict you should approach the head instructor at your school and everyone can discuss the situation.

Even though each school will have a slightly different style of teaching depending upon their instructors They will be doing their best to employ these principles.  You will find that when you start practicing these simple rules that really are simple courtesy that classes become more fun. You learn more and other people will return the respect that you give.
